NBA General Manager Player Analysis Tool
Created by Steve Lambson

Executive Summary
One aspect of the job of an NBA general manager is to manage the player mix on the team.  Daryl Morey, the GM of the Houston Rockets, uses intensive data analytics in determining which players to draft, which players to trade, and which free agents to offer deals to.  Some of the data analyzed are player stats, salaries, and age (how many productive years does this player have left).
The system I built in Excel allows one to query from the internet the most recent stats, age, and salaries of every player who has played in a game in the 2013-2014 NBA season.  A filter can then be added to this data to drive down to specific players.  To make filtering easier, I created a user form to query players based on the most important inputs.  These inputs are as follows:
·         Player Position
·         Age Range
·         Salary Range
·         Points per Game
·         Field Goal %
·         3 Point %
·         Free Throw %
·         Rebounds
·         Assists
·         Steals
·         Blocks
·         Turnovers
A macro was created to set up 4 sheets that can be used to analyze the data. They are as follows:
1.       Player Stats – shows all of the player data
2.       Stat Symbols – table with the stat abbreviation meanings
3.       Player Salaries – shows comprehensive data on player salaries
4.       Player Queries – this is where the user form queries populate
